Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, commended the collaborative efforts of schools, organizers, parents, and sponsors in creating a nurturing environment for secondary school rugby. Addressing attendees at the 85th Fiji Secondary Schools Under 18 Deans final at HFC Stadium, President Katonivere highlighted the important role rugby plays in guiding the futures of young Fijians.
“It is always rewarding to celebrate rugby moments here at home, particularly when they involve our students—our children,” he said. “This event represents a significant platform and a humble beginning in the rugby journey for our young athletes, and I take pride in being part of this milestone as we mark 85 years of Fiji Secondary School Rugby and the final of the 2024 DEANS Competition.”
The President encouraged student athletes to value their experiences and the friendships they build, motivating them to strive for improvement in the upcoming year. “Many young boys and girls aspire to be in your position. Savor the moment. Treasure the friendships. Learn from your experiences and return as better players next season.”
He also expressed gratitude to parents and supporters for their steadfast dedication to the athletes’ welfare.
