Jone Raibevu has gained recognition for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick during the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, and he is now excited to embark on his journey with the Fijian Drua Academy. At just 17 years old, Raibevu is among the 28 players chosen to undergo specialized skills training provided by Drua coaches and high-performance staff over the next three years.
The Queen Victoria School year 12 student expressed immense joy at the opportunity to join the Drua Academy, seeing it as the realization of a rugby dream he once thought was only achievable through television screens. “I never imagined that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; this is truly a dream coming to reality,” said Raibevu.
Feeling motivated by the guidance received from the Drua coaches and management, Raibevu is determined to make the most of this opportunity. He aims to reach his goals, including becoming a player for the Fijian Drua and donning the Flying Fijians jersey in the future. “I will work hard and follow the advice given to me,” he stated resolutely.
Additionally, Raibevu encourages fellow young rugby players across the country participating in secondary school competitions to set their goals and diligently pursue them. The selection of the first group of academy players came from 15 local secondary schools nationwide, highlighting the growing opportunities for aspiring athletes in Fiji.
This story serves as an inspiring reminder of how dedication and passion can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams. Raibevu’s journey illustrates that with hard work and perseverance, young athletes can achieve great things and potentially represent their nation on an international stage.
