Mick’s Fiji Tours has announced a generous sponsorship of over $5,000 for the Vatulele Sevens tournament, a move aimed at enhancing local facilities that benefit both athletes and the broader community.
During the official launch at their office in Nadi, the owner of Mick’s Fiji Tours, Sitiveni Nawaqa, emphasized the tournament, scheduled for December 19-20 at the Vatulele District School, is more than a rugby event; it represents the spirit of community, resilience, and the remarkable potential of young athletes. Nawaqa highlighted that rugby serves not only as a sport but as a unifying force that fosters teamwork and ignites passion among participants.
He expressed his dedication to supporting not only rugby but also the villages and communities that form its foundation. Nawaqa stated, “We recognize that strong and resilient communities provide the best environment for sports to thrive.”
Tournament director Filipe Qionikorolevu noted that funds raised from the event will help improve infrastructure in schools and sports facilities, creating safe spaces for children and future athletes to develop their skills. He hopes these upgrades will promote participation in various sports and community activities.
The tournament will feature a prize of $5,000 for the men’s winners, $2,000 for the runners-up, and $500 for each losing semifinalist. The women’s netball prize consists of $1,000 for the winners and $500 for the runners-up. Treasurer Asesela Naborisi called for collective support, stating, “Together, we can build a legacy that demonstrates the power of hard work, commitment, and teamwork.”
This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering community spirit and providing opportunities for youth development through sport. Other sponsors involved in this effort include Kele Na Mahi Flyer, Vatulele Island Beach Estates, Goodman Fielder, Coca-Cola, Shop 2 Save, and Creative Box Graphix.
