Roads to Recovery: $7 Million Boost for Infrastructure!

The government has set aside $7 million to tackle the persistent issues of potholes and road upkeep across the nation. Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad announced the funding, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in line with its overall budget priorities.

Prof Prasad noted that this allocation is part of a well-planned budget crafted in collaboration with various ministries. “Regarding roads, funds have been earmarked for the Fiji Roads Authority to assist in road development,” he stated.

He highlighted that road maintenance, alongside essential services like water supply, has been given high priority. “The budget is a carefully designed document developed with input from different ministries, prioritizing critical expenditures related to both roads and water supply,” Prof Prasad explained.

The $7 million investment also encompasses funding for boreholes, aimed at providing rural communities with a dependable water source where piped systems are unavailable. Prof Prasad expressed confidence that the Ministry of Works has sufficient resources to manage necessary repairs and maintenance effectively.
