The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has reported that a 55-year-old man faces charges related to inflicting grievous bodily harm on his 5-year-old stepdaughter. The child sustained injuries after being struck on the back with a cane knife by the accused.
These events are part of the ODPP’s Serious Crime (Non-Sexual Violence Offences) Statistics for August 2024, which indicates that 18 individuals were charged with a total of 28 non-sexual violence offenses during that month. The report notes that there were 14 victims among the offenses and highlights that six of the incidents involved relationships between the accused and the victims.
In a separate case, a 48-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 76-year-old father after allegedly stabbing him multiple times, causing his death.
Additionally, a 33-year-old man has been charged with attempting to inflict grievous harm on his 34-year-old de facto partner. It is alleged that he attacked the victim with a spade and is also facing charges for violating a domestic violence restraining order and breaching a suspended sentence.
Another incident involved a 34-year-old man charged with both attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted arson after allegedly injuring his 39-year-old brother and trying to set his brother’s home ablaze.
A 25-year-old man faces charges of grievous bodily harm after allegedly assaulting a 48-year-old man with punches and kicks during an argument.
A 44-year-old man has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his de facto partner, as well as aggravated burglary and criminal intimidation. The alleged incidents involved theft of cash and various items through break-ins at homes, shops, garages, and muggings.
In a case involving multiple suspects, a 24-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, and a 19-year-old man have been charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a 14-year-old boy.
Furthermore, a 31-year-old man has been charged with unlawful cultivation and possession of illicit drugs after allegedly growing 94 cannabis sativa plants and possessing over 3068 grams of the substance. Another incident saw a 30-year-old man charged with the unlawful cultivation of 347 cannabis sativa plants.
