The New Vision 21 volleyball team from Vatuwaqa is gearing up for a prominent performance in the upcoming Suva Volleyball Association club competition. Established this year, the team is dedicated to empowering the youth within their community and is making strides under the leadership of head coach Matayasi Suka.

Suka noted that while many of the players are new to the sport, he has been pleasantly surprised by their talent and commitment. Although the team won both of their recent matches by default due to the non-appearance of their opponents, their enthusiasm for volleyball remains strong.

The coach’s primary motivation in forming the team was to create a positive avenue for local youth, aiming to divert them from negative influences such as drug abuse and towards a more hopeful future. Suka remarked, “So far the team has done well; most of these boys are playing volleyball for the first time, and witnessing their potential is truly rewarding.”

Competing in the tournament has not been without its challenges, facing formidable teams, but the focus remains on continuous improvement and skill development in the sport. Suka expressed his appreciation to the Suva Volleyball Association for the chance to compete and for their ongoing support in the players’ physical and mental growth.

Overall, the New Vision 21 team exemplifies the spirit of determination and community engagement, demonstrating how sports can serve as a powerful tool for personal development and a positive influence in society.
