Two weeks into the Fiji Sports Council Athletics camp, the emphasis remains on nurturing the talents of aspiring athletes. Despite the recent festivities of Christmas and the approach of the new year, the commitment displayed by the young participants to enhance their athletic skills is commendable.
Situated at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva until January 21, the camp’s objective is to cultivate disciplined, skilled, and resilient athletes. National athletics coach Pio Qerewaqa praised the children’s unwavering focus amidst the holiday distractions. He noted, “These kids are showing incredible focus. Even with all the distractions of the holidays, they are here every day, ready to learn and grow.”
In addition to honing athletic techniques and building mental strength, Qerewaqa emphasized the crucial involvement of parents in their children’s athletic journeys. He explained, “Parents are a big part of an athlete’s success. It’s not just about bringing them to training; it’s about being actively involved in their development.”
To empower both parents and coaches, the camp incorporates sessions dedicated to educating them about nutrition, recovery, and emotional support for young athletes. Qerewaqa added, “When parents show interest and encouragement, it boosts their children’s confidence and drive.”
With three weeks remaining in the camp, Qerewaqa encouraged parents to remain engaged as their children lay the groundwork for future success, stating, “These athletes are putting in the effort, and they need the same commitment from home.”
As the year concludes, the camp serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of focus and support in achieving excellence, both on the field and in life.
This initiative is not only fostering athletic talent but is also bringing families together in the pursuit of shared goals, setting a solid foundation for future accomplishments.
