Nineteen-year-old Sikeli Suliasi from Tabalei, Magodro in Ba is making a significant impact at the Fiji Sports Council U20 7s tournament taking place at Lawaqa Park. Suliasi, who is deaf and mute, has emerged as a key player for the Uluimagodro 7s team. His remarkable skill and unwavering determination have impressed both teammates and coaches, establishing him as a promising talent in Fijian rugby.

His coach, Samuela Navale, highlights Suliasi’s abilities, stating, “He’s a very skilled player. He listens and follows instructions perfectly.” The coaching staff has been continuously amazed by Suliasi’s capacity to perform drills, strategies, and game plans with remarkable accuracy despite his challenges. Navale adds, “He always plays according to plan. It amazes us how he gives his best every time he’s on the field.”

Suliasi has earned the role of the team’s key player, with Navale expressing deep appreciation for his passion and commitment, saying, “He’s our key player. He plays with so much passion, and we just love having him on our side.”

To ensure proper training, the team stays with their coach in Lautoka, as training in their village proves difficult. “Training together in the village would be difficult, so I’ve brought them down to Lautoka to stay with me,” Navale explained.

In their opening match at the tournament, Uluimagodro 7s secured a 26-12 victory against Lami Cavaliers, with Suliasi playing a crucial role in their success.
