Nineteen-year-old Pepe Malani represents a remarkable combination of academic achievement, athletic prowess, musical skill, and community involvement at this year’s prestigious Miss Hibiscus festival. A first-year Environmental Science student at the University of the South Pacific, she is sponsored by Fiji Fashion Week, a philanthropic organization aimed at promoting competitive fashion design on a global scale. This initiative contributes to export revenue and job creation, solidifying Fiji Fashion Week as a key event in the country’s social calendar.
Pepe’s journey highlights her perseverance and commitment. She excelled in swimming throughout her primary and secondary schooling, earning numerous accolades in both school and club events. This athletic success has not only enhanced her physical skills but also fostered a strong dedication to excellence.
In addition to her sporting achievements, Pepe’s enthusiasm for music is evident. She was an active member of her high school musical choir and currently sings with the Primanavia choir group. A highlight of her musical career was representing Fiji at the World Choir Games in New Zealand earlier this year, where her choir earned a gold medal, showcasing her talent on an international platform.
Pepe’s commitment to her community is noteworthy as well. She has volunteered with St. John’s Ambulance, gaining valuable insights into the importance of assisting others during emergencies. Her involvement in local community service includes clean-up initiatives and sustainability projects aimed at enhancing the environment.
Being the youngest of five siblings, Pepe has drawn inspiration from her family’s commitment to both sports and academics. With a brother who is an Olympian, she embodies the spirit of excellence found within her family, as her siblings also enjoy significant accomplishments in their educational and athletic endeavors.
The 68th anniversary of the Hibiscus Festival, in which Pepe will participate, is scheduled to occur at the Suva Civic Foreshore and Suva Civic Centre from Saturday, August 31, to Saturday, September 7. FMF and Vodafone have stepped in as Gold Sponsors for this year’s festival edition, ensuring its ongoing success and vibrancy.
