Motikiai Murray, a former student at Ratu Kadavulevu School and open-side flanker for the Fijian Drua, is looking forward to an exciting season next year. The 21-year-old from Lovoni, Ovalau, Lomaiviti, is slowly returning to training after undergoing ankle surgery in Sydney, Australia, a few months ago. He has family ties to Nukuni-i-cake, Ono I Lau.

Murray expressed his focus on rehabilitation while preparing for the upcoming season. “I’m just focusing on my rehab since and have been prepping well for the upcoming seasons,” he stated. Although he hasn’t begun running yet, he hopes to participate in field sessions soon.

He made his debut with the Drua during their Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal against the Crusaders in June of last year. With the support and mentorship of senior players, he is learning from their experiences and aims to earn a spot on the Flying Fijians team soon.

Inspired by Flying Fijian flanker Levani Botia, whom he admires for his strength in defense and breakdowns, Murray aspires to emulate his idol. “It feels good to be playing alongside the brothers. I used to watch them in rugby league, sevens, and for the Flying Fijians,” he shared. “Playing alongside them has been exciting, and my main focus is just to stay fit and be the best of me during the season.”

Murray is also eager for the opportunity to wear the national jersey and expressed willingness to play in the number 8 position if the chance arises. Throughout the last two seasons, he has participated in six matches for the Drua.
