Fourteen-year-old Hannah Wise recently made a significant mark at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals competition, showcasing her passion for the sport. Competing for the Great White Sharks team from Lautoka, this Year 9 student from Tilak High School achieved impressive results, winning two gold medals.

Wise described the competition as both exhilarating and challenging, noting the speed of the athletes she faced. “The competition has been great; swimming against experienced swimmers is tough, but I’m thankful for my achievements,” she said.

She competed in six events and was thrilled to secure gold medals for her team on the competition’s first day. “My goal was to win all gold medals, but if not, to at least improve my times,” she explained.

Having swum for six years, Wise credits her grandmother with inspiring her love for the sport. “After she retired, my grandmother enrolled me and my siblings in swimming,” she shared.

For Wise, swimming offers both peace and joy, though balancing schoolwork with training can be challenging. She often feels fatigued after practice but remains committed to excelling academically and athletically.

Wise expressed her heartfelt gratitude toward her coach and family for their continuous encouragement throughout her swimming journey.
