The Health Ministry has reported that HIV has resulted in 13 deaths from January to June of this year, alongside 552 new cases identified during the same timeframe. This marks a stark increase compared to previous years, with 82 deaths recorded in 2022 and 49 the year before.
To combat these figures, the ministry is urging the public, especially young individuals, to avoid high-risk behaviors that could lead to HIV transmission. Such activities include the use of injectable drugs and sharing of needles, as well as unprotected sex with multiple partners and participation in high-risk sexual activities.
The ministry also reassured the public that HIV is not a death sentence. With proper treatment, those living with the virus can lead fulfilling lives and engage in regular activities. They emphasize the importance of getting tested, particularly for individuals involved in high-risk practices, to understand their HIV status. Additionally, those who test positive are encouraged to seek immediate treatment and adhere to their prescribed therapy.
