Rising HIV Cases Prompt Urgent Health Warning

HIV has resulted in 13 deaths between January and June of this year, according to a statement from the Health Ministry. During the same period, the country recorded 552 new cases of HIV.

This figure shows a stark contrast to previous years, which saw 82 deaths in 2022 and 49 fatalities in 2021.

The ministry is urging the public, especially young individuals, to avoid high-risk activities associated with acquiring the HIV virus, such as sharing needles during injectable drug use, engaging in unprotected sex with multiple partners, participating in chemsex, and other risky behaviors.

Importantly, the ministry emphasized that HIV is not a death sentence. With proper treatment, individuals living with HIV can lead normal, active lives.

The ministry encourages everyone, particularly those involved in high-risk activities, to get tested and be aware of their HIV status. It also urges those who have tested positive to seek treatment promptly and adhere to their prescribed medical regimen.
