According to a statement from the Health Ministry, thirteen lives have been lost to HIV from January to June of this year, during which 552 new cases were reported in the country. This is a significant increase compared to 82 deaths reported last year and 49 in 2022.

The ministry is urging the public, especially young individuals, to avoid high-risk behaviors that elevate the chances of HIV transmission. These behaviors include using injectable drugs and sharing needles, engaging in unprotected sex with multiple partners, and participating in activities such as chemsex.

It is emphasized that HIV is not a death sentence; with proper treatment, individuals living with HIV can lead normal, active lives. The ministry is also urging those involved in high-risk activities to get tested and understand their HIV status. Additionally, people who test positive for HIV are encouraged to seek treatment immediately and to adhere diligently to their treatment plans.
