Fulori Waqasaqa, a 33-year-old entrepreneur from Namuaimada, Ra, has successfully launched her small business in Bulileka, Labasa. Starting her venture just last year, Waqasaqa has found significant support not only from her family but also from the community around her.

She has a background in education, having studied at a secondary school in Nasinu, where she learned about entrepreneurship, though she never imagined starting her own business. Her determination has led her to seek further education to enhance her skills and knowledge, which she believes will aid in the growth of her business.

Waqasaqa creates handmade products and sells them in local villages, catering to a growing market. She is particularly focused on producing items in high demand, such as handmade utensils and decor. Her business has seen a steady flow of orders from various sources, including hotels in the area.

During the festive season, Waqasaqa reports an increase in orders, with clients appreciating her craftsmanship. Offering her products at around $5 each, she is able to make a decent profit. On a good day, she can make up to 20 items, which can generate approximately $200 in a week, with potential earnings of $400 during larger events.

These small achievements contribute greatly to her family’s wellbeing and highlight how grassroots businesses can foster community development. Waqasaqa encourages others to recognize and utilize their talents to improve their livelihoods, reflecting a hopeful message about perseverance and resourcefulness in entrepreneurship.

In light of her journey, it is evident that local businesses can play a critical role in economic empowerment, especially for women. Waqasaqa’s story serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the potential within each individual to harness their abilities and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
