The ongoing issue of child abuse has become increasingly urgent, prompting Assistant Minister for Women and Children Sashi Kiran to emphasize the necessity for collective action in addressing this critical problem. At the recent workshop focused on capacity development in mental health and psychological support services, Ms. Kiran highlighted that the alarming statistics surrounding child abuse represent real suffering experienced by vulnerable children across the nation.

She underscored the importance of collaboration among professionals from both government and non-governmental organizations, gathering to enhance their skills in responding to child abuse cases. “This training is a vital step towards equipping your teams with the resources and expertise needed to protect children who are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation,” she stated.

Ms. Kiran acknowledged the long-term mental health challenges faced by children who have undergone physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, recognizing the critical need to attend to their emotional well-being. She warned that failing to provide adequate support could perpetuate a cycle in which abused children might grow into future abusers.

The workshop serves not only to build professional capabilities but also to reinforce the communal duty we share in safeguarding our children, the most vulnerable members of society. By taking these proactive measures, there is hope for a stronger network of support to protect children and prevent future abuse.

This article underscores a vital concern but also shines a light on the collaborative efforts underway to address these issues. As communities come together, there is potential for significant positive change in safeguarding children’s rights and well-being. Together, society can create a safer, more nurturing environment for children, breaking the cycle of abuse and ensuring a brighter future.
