Rising Above: How Ana Seru Became an Inspiration Through Cadets

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, made a remarkable achievement by being named the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in a densely populated area known for its social challenges had a significant impact on her life, shaping her determination to excel.

During a week of cadet training, Ana faced the humid conditions while mastering the marching techniques, which she described as a challenge. At just 14 years old, she reflected on her upbringing, acknowledging that while it was not ideal, she continuously sought excellence in her studies.

“I had no other choice; the only way to improve my life is through education,” Ana expressed. She emphasized the importance of making sound decisions, particularly in the face of peer pressure, a lesson instilled in her by her family. She believes that making good choices leads to positive results.

Ana dedicated her award to her siblings and father, who were present at the ceremony. She considers herself the introvert of the family and hopes that her recognition will motivate her younger siblings to realize that they can achieve their goals through determination. Inspired by her performance, her younger siblings, currently in primary school, are eager to transition to secondary school and partake in cadet training.
