Rising Above: Ana Seru’s Inspiring Journey from Raiwaqa to Cadet Star

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, was honored as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the Raiwaqa area, which is known for its social challenges, profoundly shaped Ana’s journey.

Throughout the week-long cadet training, she faced the heat and learned various marching techniques, which she described as difficult. At just 14 years old, Ana reflected on her upbringing, acknowledging it wasn’t perfect, but she remained committed to excelling academically. “I realized that education is my pathway to a better life,” she stated.

Originally from Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana emphasized the importance of making wise decisions, particularly in the face of peer pressure. She attributed these lessons to her home environment, stating that good choices yield positive results.

Dedicated to her family, Ana dedicated her award to her siblings and father, who were present during the ceremony. “As the introvert in the family, I hope this recognition inspires my younger siblings to pursue their ambitions and believe they can achieve anything with determination,” she expressed. She also noted that her younger siblings, currently in primary school, are now motivated to join secondary school and engage in cadet training after witnessing her success.
