Rewa is set to welcome a Chinese scoping team tasked with evaluating the province’s development potential. This announcement was made by Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, after her recent trip to China.
The scoping team is expected to commence its work in September, during which they will assess local resources and determine the best ways to utilize them to improve the lives of Rewa’s residents. Ro Teimumu stated that the team’s primary mission is not to provide specific agricultural recommendations but to uncover possible opportunities and capabilities within the region.
“We do not need a technical team to dictate what we should grow,” she expressed. “Our aim is to understand what is feasible.”
The Chinese team will explore various areas in Rewa starting in September, and this visit will precede meetings with the tikina council and the provincial council. These discussions aim to inform the Rewa community about poverty alleviation efforts inspired by the Chinese model and will involve input from the Great Council of Chiefs.
Ro Teimumu emphasized that the initiative would focus on providing technical assistance rather than financial aid. She described it as a pilot project intended to start small, initially targeting villages in need of the most help. The plan is to launch visible initiatives and gradually expand from there.
