The Rewa under-16 girls football team achieved a 2-0 victory over Suva in the weekly Digicel Fiji Girls under-16 league competition held at the Fiji Football Academy grounds yesterday. The U16 squad showcased impressive performances throughout the game, leaving the Suva team without a win.
Team manager Marama Matila expressed her joy during an interview, highlighting the team’s progress and the significance of their victory. “We’re happy that we came up with a good team and we beat them with tuning,” Matila stated. “We’re proud of our girls today; they are showing improvement compared to last time.”
Matila pointed out that yesterday’s victory was particularly special given the team’s previous 0-1 loss to Suva, emphasizing how their performance evolution contributed to their success. “We just told our backs to understand the game, not to dribble unnecessarily. If the ball comes back, they need to clear it,” she explained.
Although there are no immediate plans for the future, Matila mentioned that the team will await further instructions from the Fiji Football Association regarding upcoming activities. She also acknowledged the consistent preparation of the team and expressed gratitude to families, parents, and supporters who came out to cheer for them during the match.
