Pacific Recycling Foundation and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited are in the early stages of discussions regarding a potentially transformative partnership focused on promoting sustainability in both recycling and agriculture. The initiative aims to address plastic waste management while improving organic farming practices.
The Fertile Factory has recently launched BulaBioBrew Soil, a natural, organic liquid fertilizer intended to enhance soil biology and support plant health. This product is packaged in PET bottles, providing a chemical-free alternative that promotes soil diversity and balance.
The Pacific Recycling Foundation is looking into methods for capturing these PET bottles after the fertilizer’s use through its recycling programs. The discussions include the potential introduction of a deposit system that would incentivize the collection, reuse, and recycling of these bottles, thereby reducing environmental pollution and preventing them from ending up in landfills.
Amitesh Deo, Founder of PRF, expressed enthusiasm about the possible collaboration, noting it could mark a significant step forward for Fiji. He stated, “If this collaboration progresses, it will support our efforts to reduce plastic waste by ensuring that PET bottles used for packaging BulaBioBrew Soil are captured through our recycling programs. This initiative will contribute to a cleaner environment while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.”
Additionally, there is interest in having PRF’s sustainability initiative, Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant, use BulaBioBrew Soil on its farms, which already follow a farm-to-table concept. This pilot project aims to showcase the benefits of organic fertilizer while emphasizing the significance of plastic waste recycling in agriculture.
Sanjeev Chand, CEO of The Fertile Factory, expressed optimism about the partnership talks. He said, “We are pleased to begin exploring collaboration with the Pacific Recycling Foundation. BulaBioBrew Soil has the potential to revolutionize how farmers manage their soil, and by partnering with PRF, we aim to ensure that the PET bottles used for packaging are not detrimental to the environment. Although we are in early discussions, we see considerable potential in creating a system that promotes recycling and supports sustainable farming practices.”
These discussions between PRF and The Fertile Factory, still in preliminary phases, could lead to an innovative approach that links organic farming with effective plastic waste management.
