The Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Fiji has introduced a new application named Sova Ni Bula, which represents a significant step forward in the management of healthcare and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country. The launch event was officiated by Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, the Chief Medical Officer, who shared that the app’s title, which translates to “Basket of Life,” signifies its aim to enhance the health of the Fijian population.

During the event, representatives from various organizations, including Suakane Kentaro from JICA and Michael Glees from USAID, expressed their support for the new platform. They emphasized how the app could assist healthcare professionals in efficiently managing NCDs, minimizing patient wait times, and elevating the quality of care provided.

Sova Ni Bula was developed through collaborations with TaiwanICDF, USAID, JICA and other partners. Currently, it is being piloted in four health centers, with an optimistic outlook on positively impacting healthcare efficiency, treatment outcomes, and equitable access to services. Notable features of the app include its offline capability, GIS-powered health trend tracking, and a user-friendly interface.

This initiative demonstrates a progressive move toward better healthcare solutions in Fiji, showcasing the potential for technology to revolutionize health management in the region.
