The Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Fiji has introduced a groundbreaking mobile application called Sova Ni Bula, which is expected to transform healthcare and enhance the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country. The app was officially launched by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, who highlighted that the name “Sova Ni Bula,” which translates to “Basket of Life,” symbolizes the app’s mission to enhance the overall health of Fijians.
Dr. Cikamatana shared insights during the launch, with representatives from partner organizations, including Suakane Kentaro from JICA and Michael Glees from USAID, voicing their support for the initiative. They emphasized the app’s potential to aid healthcare professionals in managing NCDs more effectively, reducing patient wait times, and ultimately improving the quality of care provided to patients.
The Sova Ni Bula app has been developed in collaboration with notable partners such as TaiwanICDF, USAID, JICA, and others. It is currently undergoing pilot testing in four health centers. The application’s design includes key features like offline capability, GIS-powered health trend monitoring, and a user-friendly interface, all aimed at facilitating healthcare efficiency, enhancing patient outcomes, and ensuring equitable access to medical services.
