The Cabinet has approved a review of the Mahogany Industry Development Act 2010 (MIDA 2010) and the Mahogany Industry (Licensing and Branding) Act 2011 (MILBA 2011). Acting Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica stated that MIDA 2010 established the Mahogany Industry Council, while MILBA 2011 outlines the licensing and branding regulations for Fiji Mahogany.

Kamikamica mentioned that the Mahogany Industry Taskforce Review Committee, which was formed in March 2024, recommended the legislative review to tackle challenges faced by stakeholders in the mahogany sector. The review aims to assess the role of the Mahogany Industry Council and facilitate the growth of the mahogany industry, while also enhancing the recognition of the quality of Fiji’s hardwood products on both local and international markets.
