Revolutionizing Fiji’s Fight Against Drugs: New NDP Unveiled!

The National Development Plan (NDP) for Fiji emphasizes improving the Fiji Police Force’s capability to address drug-related issues. Assistant Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga has endorsed the NDP, noting its potential to tackle significant challenges the force is currently experiencing and may face in the future.

Lutunauga stated, “All the challenges in relation to the Fiji Police Force that are currently being faced and into the future are embedded in this NDP.” He expressed eagerness to implement the plan at an operational level. Key priorities include enhancing the capacity and capabilities within the police force to ensure effective responses to the needs of the Fijian populace.

Lutunauga pointed out that the NDP provides a strategic framework for the police, integrating concerns related to law enforcement and drug control. He highlighted the establishment of a dedicated narcotics bureau by the government as a strong platform in the nation’s fight against drug issues, while simultaneously committing to internal efforts through the Drugs and Serious Crime Intelligence Unit.

The plan seeks to bolster the police’s narcotics bureau and enhance its functions through the existing intelligence unit. The NDP is designed to deliver the necessary support and resources to strengthen the police’s drug prevention and enforcement initiatives.

By focusing on these crucial areas, the plan aims to boost the overall effectiveness of the Fiji Police Force, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for Fiji. “Everything we advocated for has been incorporated into the plan,” Lutunauga affirmed.
