Revolutionizing Agriculture: Join the Climate-Smart Movement at National Show 2024!

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that climate-smart agriculture will be a key focus at the upcoming 2024 National Agriculture Show, scheduled for October 15-18.

Under the theme “Empowering Farmers: Cultivating Resilience through Innovation and Inclusiveness in Climate-Smart Agriculture,” Minister Vatimi Rayalu highlighted the visible impacts of climate change on farming in Fiji, noting issues such as saltwater intrusion affecting both coastal areas and rivers.

The event aims to gather farmers, agricultural experts, industry leaders, and the public to address these challenges. Attendees will engage in hands-on sessions, demonstrations, and expert discussions to learn about the latest advancements in climate-smart practices.

Rayalu emphasized the importance of traditional crops that have demonstrated resilience over time, advocating for the propagation of these varieties instead of focusing solely on hybrid options.

The National Agriculture Show will also highlight new livestock breeds and showcase techniques related to animal health and production. Visitors can look forward to demonstrations on biogas production and other advanced practices, with opportunities for farmers to discuss their concerns directly with ministry officials.

Additionally, a “Farmers’ Village” will be featured, allowing local farmers to display their produce and value-added products. The event will include interactive exhibits, farm-to-table experiences, and educational activities suitable for all age groups.

Rayalu encouraged farmers, students, and the general public to attend the Agriculture Show 2024 to celebrate innovations in the agricultural sector and strive for a more sustainable and productive industry.
