The Land Transport Authority has announced a wheel tax amnesty for vehicles that were not in use during the COVID-19 pandemic. This amnesty will be in effect from August 1, 2024, until July 31, 2025, in accordance with Legal Notice 73 of the Land Transport (Fees & Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.

According to the LTA, vehicle owners whose vehicles expired between July 4, 2016, and July 31, 2023, can apply to have their wheel tax arrears waived. This includes the Road User Levy and fees connected to the Accident Compensation Act 2017. However, those with vehicles that expired on or before July 3, 2016, will not be eligible for this waiver and will still incur arrears from the expiry date until July 3, 2016.

The LTA clarified that while arrears accrued from July 4, 2016, until the date of inspection during the amnesty will be waived, vehicle owners will have to pay arrears if their vehicle was valid between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024.

To take advantage of this initiative, vehicle owners must visit their nearest LTA branch to clear any outstanding fines, renew their motor vehicle accident levy (MVAL), and pay for an inspection application.
