Students who have left school will be given a chance to resume their education. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized during the Committee of Supply session in Parliament last week that a significant number of the dropouts are iTaukei students.
Professor Prasad stated that studies and presentations from the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and Ministry of Education indicate a need for collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Education on TELS, TVET, and higher educational institutions to create specialized educational courses for students who have left school in forms four, five, and six.
“A lot of these students are iTaukei,” Professor Prasad noted. “We should strive to bring them back into the educational system so they can be trained. Many of these students end up at institutions like Pacific Polytech, but we need greater awareness to reach them.”
The Finance Minister highlighted that although the $300,000 allocated for the education awareness program is not a large sum, the initiative is expected to yield significant benefits.
