Reviving Faith: The Methodist Church’s Bold New Vision

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is reportedly experiencing a revival, according to Reverend Anil Reuben, the Assistant General Secretary of the church. He highlighted this positive change during his discussions about the church’s direction and the involvement of its leadership.

Reverend Reuben, noted for his long tenure in ministry, expressed optimism about the church’s revival. He mentioned, “The president of the church includes us in his decision-making. The church is reviving,” indicating a collaborative approach within the church leadership. He also emphasized the importance of restoring the church’s image, citing that many children are now attending services.

This year’s conference theme is focused on “Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.” Reverend Reuben pointed out the need to address the perception that many incarcerated individuals are Methodists, stating, “We are lacking in areas such as prisons and hospitals. We must ensure that we continue to reach out to these places.”

Church President Reverend Semisi Turagavou acknowledged the challenges the church faces in acting as a prophetic voice and spiritual guide for the nation. He urged the congregation to unify in their mission, saying, “Restoring or achieving the lost image of Christ is the vision… We need to recapture what we have lost.”

Reverend Turagavou further encouraged innovative thinking within the church, stressing, “God is forming and reforming His church, and He’s calling us to partner with Him and elevate the church to another level.”
