The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is witnessing a revival, according to Reverend Anil Reuben, the Assistant General Secretary. As one of the church’s longest-serving ministers, he expressed optimism about the church’s future.
Reverend Reuben highlighted that the church’s president involves members in decision-making processes, contributing to this sense of revival. “It is time to restore the lost image. I have been preaching in many places, and I see that many children are filling up the church,” he remarked. The theme for this year’s conference focuses on “Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.”
Additionally, Reverend Reuben pointed out that a significant number of incarcerated individuals identify as Methodists, stressing the need for the church to address this issue. He stated, “We are lacking in areas such as prisons and hospitals. We must ensure that we continue to reach out to these places.”
The Church President, Reverend Semisi Turagavou, acknowledged the challenges the church faces as it strives to be a prophetic voice and spiritual leader in the nation. “We should rise and move to another level. Restoring or achieving the lost image of Christ is our vision, and we should accept it collectively as our mission for the year 2024-2025. We need to recapture what we have lost,” Reverend Turagavou said.
He emphasized the importance of innovative thinking, stating, “This is our time. We need to think outside the box. The time is always right to do what is right. God is forming and reforming His church, calling us to partner with Him and elevate the church to another level.”
