Reviving Democracy: Fiji’s Promise of Unity and Freedom

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, asserted that the current government has fulfilled its commitment to restore freedom to the people of Fiji by ending the oppressive regime of two individuals.

During his speech at the National Federation Party Annual Convention, Prof Prasad emphasized the government’s efforts to establish a democratic and accountable administration in Fiji. He stated that they have honored their promise to eliminate fear and intimidation while also pledging to actively listen and engage with citizens.

Prof Prasad urged party members to support these initiatives and continue backing the government in its mission to improve Fiji. He highlighted the National Federation Party as the oldest political party in the country, noting its resilience while other parties, even those once formidable, have faded away.

He expressed that the party’s survival is rooted in a shared belief in unity and compassion for Fiji, emphasizing the desire to uplift the most vulnerable communities. For decades, the party has aspired to reach this moment in government, where it can provide honest and empathetic leadership aimed at making Fiji stronger, better, and more resilient. Prof Prasad concluded by affirming their commitment to creating a more equal and just society for all Fijians.
