Revival in the Methodist Church: A New Era for Fiji and Rotuma

The Assistant General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Anil Reuben, expresses his belief that the church is undergoing a revival. As one of the most experienced ministers within the church, Reverend Reuben reflects on this revival, stating, “The president of the church includes us in his decision-making. The church is reviving.” He emphasizes the importance of restoring the church’s lost image and notes a significant increase in attendance, particularly among children.

This year’s conference theme is “Restoring the Lost Image of Christ within the Methodist Church in Fiji.” Reverend Reuben draws attention to the need for outreach, particularly in prisons and hospitals, as many incarcerated individuals are affiliated with the Methodist faith. He underscores the church’s commitment to changing this narrative and expanding its presence in those areas.

Church President Reverend Semisi Turagavou acknowledges the challenges faced by the church in its role as a prophetic voice and spiritual guide for the nation. He calls for collective action to restore the lost image of Christ, which he identifies as the church’s mission for the upcoming year. “This is our time. We need to think outside the box. The time is always right to do what is right,” he says. Reverend Turagavou encourages the congregation to partner with God in reforming and elevating the church for the future.
