Revitalizing Suva: The Ambitious Viti Levu Plan Unveiled!

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has emphasized that the redevelopment of Ratu Sukuna Park is part of the larger Viti Levu Plan, which encompasses a comprehensive vision for development. During the park’s re-opening, Kamikamica highlighted that the Master Plan, pending approval from the Cabinet, will serve as a strategic guideline for the next 50 years, focusing on sustainable urban development, especially in the greater Suva area.

Kamikamica pointed out that the Viti Levu Master Plan aims to tackle significant issues such as rapid urbanization, traffic congestion, and environmental sustainability. The plan envisions preserving and enhancing urban spaces like Ratu Sukuna Park, marking them as essential green areas within the city.

For Suva, the Master Plan promises improvements in infrastructure, better transport networks, and a strategic growth of residential, commercial, and industrial zones. By incorporating parks and open spaces into this framework, the cities can develop in an economically viable, environmentally sustainable, and socially inclusive manner.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to urban development, citing Ratu Sukuna Park as a prime example. Through the Ministry of Local Government, various initiatives are underway to support well-planned urban areas.

Kamikamica also noted the recent approval of the National Housing Policy Review, which aims to address Fiji’s housing challenges by promoting affordable, safe, and sustainable housing solutions. The policy integrates climate-resilient practices and seeks to enhance urban planning, ensuring that every Fijian has access to adequate housing.
