Revitalizing Fiji’s Sugar Industry: Future Prospects Unveiled

Ratu Josaia Niudamu recently spoke in parliament about the future of Fiji’s sugar industry while showing his support for the 2024-2025 National Budget.

He acknowledged the absence of current funds for re-establishing the FSC Penang Sugar Mill but expressed optimism for future developments.

“I have noted that no allocation has been made for the re-establishment of the FSC Penang Sugar Mill. But I know that it will come next year, as the Minister for Sugar has clearly stated in this august House in May this year,” he said.

Niudamu referred to the Minister for Sugar’s assurance that the mill would be completed before their term ends, signaling a long-term commitment to revitalizing the sugar sector.

He also mentioned the potential purchase of a second-hand mill from China to be installed in Rakiraki, which could bring significant economic benefits to the Ra area. This move aligns with the government’s broader efforts to support the agricultural sector and enhance economic stability in rural areas.

“Every dollar allocated in this budget is intended to benefit all Fijians.”

He urged the government to ensure the budget’s effective implementation so that Fijians can enjoy the announced assistance and incentives.
