The 36 Lagilagi Housing units at Jittu Estate in Raiwaqa, Suva, which have remained unoccupied for several years, are set to open by the end of next month. This update was provided by Public Rental Board General Manager Timoci Naleba following a project tour with Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo.
Mr. Naleba stated, “This project will be completed by the end of next month. Therefore, we expect residents to begin moving in at that time. I hope those granted approval to occupy these new flats will be satisfied with the finishes that the PRB has achieved.”
He also noted that potential residents could choose between purchasing or rental agreements, depending on government approval. Additionally, the Agriculture Ministry is collaborating with employed tenants through a poverty alleviation program to offer support initiatives.
“For those wishing to return to rural areas, we are coordinating with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to assist with transportation,” Mr. Naleba added.
Minister Vosarogo expressed gratitude for the developments, especially considering the units had been vacant prior to their transfer to the PRB. “This represents a success story emerging from a forgotten and deteriorating situation,” he remarked.
He recalled visiting the site in 2022 when the building was in a dilapidated state, emphasizing the transformation since then and the intent to revitalize the area.
