Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew addressed officers from the Headquarters Division during a Medal award event at the Fiji Police Academy, emphasizing the need for changing public perceptions about the police force. He asserted that while the actions of a few individuals have contributed to a negative view, the Fiji Police Force as a whole is not corrupt.
During the ceremony, officers from various units, including the Criminal Investigations Department and the Police Mobile Force, received awards such as the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Service Medal.
Commissioner Chew pointed out that improving public opinion requires collective effort and acknowledged that while he has received some positive feedback, it is overshadowed by negative incidents involving officers facing legal accusations. He welcomed criticism, believing that police officers have the potential for improvement.
Despite the evolving landscape of crime, Chew urged officers to continue their diligent work. He encouraged them to view each day as an opportunity for personal and professional growth, and to make better decisions that positively impact their families and communities.
