Crime is changing, and criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, prompting the need for a new police strategy, according to Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua. He made this statement during the Fiji Police Force’s 150th anniversary parade in Nasova.

Tikoduadua introduced the concept of the “Police Reset,” emphasizing that it is not merely a strategy, but a commitment to transform the operations of the Fiji Police Force in a world that is swiftly evolving.

He pointed out that crime is constantly evolving, as evident in the rise of complex issues such as cybercrime, organized crime, and drug trafficking, making the challenges faced by law enforcement more intricate than ever.

To address these challenges, Tikoduadua stressed the importance of adapting. He explained that the Police Reset focuses on equipping officers with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to tackle modern threats effectively.

The initiative aims to create a more agile and responsive police force that is accountable to the public and closely connected with the communities they serve.

This approach marks a shift from traditional methods to a more innovative way of protection and service. Tikoduadua noted that implementing the Reset will entail investing in technology, equipment, and personnel.

He highlighted that key components of this transformation would include training, professional development, and renewed emphasis on integrity and service.

Additionally, there will be a stronger focus on community policing, as true safety arises not only from enforcing the law, but also from fostering trust and cooperation with the communities they are dedicated to protecting.
