Revamping Fiji: A Call for National Renewal

The political, economic, and social landscape of our nation needs rebuilding, says Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo.

During his contribution to the Budget Debate this week, Mr. Vosarogo emphasized the necessity for leaders to come together and rethink their approach as representatives chosen by voters.

“Let us validate their hope, their aspirations, and hand them a Fiji that they can enjoy and continue to call home, and God willing, for many generations to come,” stated Mr. Vosarogo.

“The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Finance have made it clear that our future depends on a truthful budget that sets the stage for growth and ensures equitable participation in the economy.”

Mr. Vosarogo addressed criticisms from some members of the House, noting that those “excluding the nine” believe the budget lacks glamour and high-end statements.

“While they are entitled to their opinions, this year’s budget, in my view, aims to achieve several objectives,” Mr. Vosarogo remarked.

“First, it seeks to rectify over a decade of poor fiscal management and its repercussions, such as inflated economic figures, a fragile investment environment, targeted persecutions, and unsustainable programs that have created an unhealthy economic climate which hinders future growth.

“Second, it acknowledges the need to reduce the GDP-to-debt ratio over the next decade to provide stability and give the Government more flexibility to invest in growth areas that will energize the economic environment, attract contextual investment, and make Fiji a destination for large-scale global investments.”
