Revamp of Fiji’s Accident Compensation System Sparks Controversy

To enhance efficiency and synergy, the functions of the Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji (ACCF) related to workers’ compensation and injuries at schools will be transferred to the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations.

This announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad during the 2024-2025 National Budget Announcement.

Professor Prasad stated that the ACCF will refocus on its primary role of managing motor vehicle accidents.

He also mentioned that $6 million has been allocated for compensation related to workplace and school injuries.

The operational transition began on 1 June 2024, with approximately 1,200 claims files being handed over to the Ministry.
