Reverend Simione Tugi, the general secretary of the Fiji Council of Churches (FCC), has called for assistance following the remarkable turnout at the recent Planetshakers crusade in Lautoka. The Australian gospel band attracted thousands of young attendees to Churchill Park over the weekend, marking an unprecedented gathering for Rev. Tugi at such an event.
In partnership with Planetshakers, the FCC organized this crusade, which Rev. Tugi described as moving, particularly as many young people, representing various denominations and ethnic backgrounds, dedicated their lives to their faith. He noted that the event saw youths leaving behind nightlife and party scenes to engage in worship.
Rev. Tugi raised concerns about the church’s impact on young people, saying, “The church, the Government, and the community need the support of evangelistic teams like Planetshakers to address pressing issues such as drugs, HIV, sexual abuse, and teen suicides.”
Mereoni Tinaitukana from Goulding Developments shared her experience of the event, emphasizing the powerful messages delivered during the two days. “I feel it’s time for young Fijians to revive activities like praise festivals and church crusades to help break the cycle of drug addiction,” she stated.
The next Planetshakers crusade is scheduled for August 25 at Albert Park in Suva, starting at 3 p.m.
