Rev. Tugi’s Call to Action: Can Crusades Change Fiji’s Youth?

Reverend Simione Tugi has called for assistance following the successful Planetshakers crusade that recently drew thousands of young attendees to Churchill Park in Lautoka. The Fiji Council of Churches (FCC), which partnered with the Australian gospel band for this event, witnessed a significant turnout of young people from various denominations and ethnic backgrounds.

Rev. Tugi expressed that this was his first experience witnessing such a large gathering at a crusade, with many attendees dedicating their lives to faith. He mentioned, “It truly touches my heart to see their hunger for God,” noting that some young individuals chose to abandon their nightlife for the three-night event.

He raised concerns about the church’s impact on young people, stating, “Why are we not making an impact? I believe we need help.” Rev. Tugi emphasized the collaboration needed among the church, government, and community to address pressing issues such as drug use, HIV, sexual abuse, and suicide affecting youth today.

One attendee, Mereoni Tinaitukana from Goulding Developments, shared her positive experience at the crusade, highlighting the powerful message conveyed. She remarked on the importance of reigniting community activities like praise festivals and church events to foster a closer relationship with God and combat issues like drug addiction among the younger generation.

The next crusade is scheduled to take place at Albert Park in Suva on August 25, starting at 3 PM.
