Resilience in the Market: One Woman’s Fight Against Cancer

Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor from Tavakubu, has successfully built her business over the past eight years while simultaneously fighting breast cancer and managing two market stalls. Despite her health challenges, Ms. Chandra continues to operate her business with the help of her family.

Starting her entrepreneurial journey selling pineapples on the street, Ms. Chandra has grown into a respected figure within the community of resilient women vendors. Her battle with breast cancer has tested her strength, but she remains determined.

“My family has been my support system throughout my cancer treatment. My mother and my son have always been there for me,” she shared.

Eight years ago, she began selling pineapples, and over time she expanded to become a prominent vendor in Lautoka. “All the women I’ve met here are very hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of,” she noted.

Ms. Chandra’s story is one of perseverance and community support, serving as an inspiration to others. Her commitment to her family, business, and personal healing exemplifies the spirit of resilience.
