Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor in Tavakubu, has successfully operated her business for eight years while bravely battling breast cancer. Despite her diagnosis, she continues to manage two market stalls, with considerable support from her family.

Starting her entrepreneurial journey by selling pineapples on the street, Ms. Chandra has transformed into a well-respected vendor in Lautoka over the years, becoming a role model in her community of hardworking women.

Her experience with breast cancer has presented numerous challenges, yet her fortitude remains unshaken. “My family has been my support system through my cancer treatment. My mum and my son have always stood by my side,” she shared.

Ms. Chandra emphasizes the dedication of the women she works alongside, stating, “All the women I’ve met here are very hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of.”
