Resignation Shakes Up People’s Alliance Leadership

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.

At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his decision. “Firstly, I have accomplished my goal of helping to establish the party and effectively defeating the FijiFirst party, which stands as a significant achievement of my leadership,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health and personal life, noting that managing both the presidency and his chief role in Nadi had become challenging. “I have chosen to focus on my role as Tui Nadi, and it is the appropriate time to pass on the leadership to someone else,” he added. Ratu Vuniyani dismissed rumors that he had disagreements with party procedures, calling them misinformation.

He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
