Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has directed the Minister for Housing to assess the relocation needs of residents living in the Nabua Muslim League settlement in Suva. The eviction notices issued to these residents comply with legal requirements, as the land currently occupied is owned by the Fiji Muslim League.
Rabuka expressed concern for the residents affected by the relocation, stating, “I hope not too many people will be dislocated from native land, where the law will be applied.” The Prime Minister confirmed that while the Ministry of Housing is developing a relocation strategy, he could not specify a timeline for when these residents might move.
The ongoing efforts to create a relocation plan indicate the government’s commitment to ensuring that residents are treated with care and respect during this process. This approach emphasizes the importance of maintaining housing security for those who may be displaced, as the government navigates both legal and humanitarian concerns.
This proactive stance shows a recognition of the complexities involved in land ownership and community welfare, highlighting the government’s responsibility to find a viable solution that accommodates those affected.
