Jai Karan, a 57-year-old local, has highlighted that the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has neglected their responsibility to clear the drains, despite requests that have persisted for over 25 years.
Mr. Karan stated, “Blocked drains have caused flash floods for decades. We once again urge the FRA to address this issue and help prevent flooding, which affects all our residents.” The flooding not only disrupts the Boca Loop Circular Road but also poses risks for motorists who must navigate treacherous conditions to reach work or Labasa Town during heavy rains.

Divisional Health Inspector for the Northern Region, Vakaruru Cavuilati, has cautioned the community against dumping household waste into drains and creeks, which contributes to blockages and exacerbates the flooding situation. He warned that flooded areas significantly increase the risk of diseases such as leptospirosis, typhoid, dengue, and diarrhea.
