The Fiji Police M-PAiSA task force has taken action by charging two individuals in connection with a fraudulent scheme involving the mobile money transfer application, M-PAiSA. The accused, a 29-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Davuilevu and Koronivia, allegedly orchestrated a scam involving rental cars.
On September 17, it is reported that the duo used various Facebook accounts to advertise rental cars, requesting payments to be made through the M-PAiSA app. A victim from Nadi fell for the scheme and sent $190 to the designated mobile number. After attempting to contact the alleged scammers, he realized he had been deceived and subsequently reported the incident to the Nadi Police Station.
The two individuals now face serious charges including Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and Dishonestly Dealing with Personal Financial Information. They are scheduled to appear at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
