Remembering Zanzeer Singh: A Legendary Voice in Sports Journalism

Families, friends, and colleagues from the media community gathered at the Girmit Multicultural Centre in Lautoka yesterday to honor the memory of Zanzeer Singh, a former senior sports journalist for The Fiji Times.

During the emotional farewell, heartfelt tributes highlighted the life of the 49-year-old father of two, emphasizing his love and purpose. Ana Niumataiwalu, a former sports journalist at The Fiji Times and close friend of Singh, described him as “larger than life.” She recalled their last conversation, where he expressed hope to see her upon his recovery from illness.

Waisea Nasokia, the West editor of Fiji Sun, spoke of his admiration for Singh, noting that he was not only a close friend but also a brilliant reporter who garnered immense respect throughout his career. He praised Singh for his straightforwardness and skill with words, recalling how he learned much from reading Singh’s articles. Nasokia thanked Singh’s family for caring for him during tough times and acknowledged Singh’s resilience and generosity.

Mr. Singh dedicated 20 years of his life to The Fiji Times before he was cremated at Lovu Cemetery yesterday.
