In July, a total of 15,223 residents left Fiji, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS). Of these departures, 13,488 individuals, or 88.6 percent, were for short-term absences of less than three months, while 625, or 4.1 percent, were for absences between three and twelve months. Additionally, 1,110 residents, representing 7.3 percent, departed for longer-term absences of a year or more.
The FBoS also reported that provisional figures indicated 98,332 visitors arrived in Fiji in July 2024. Out of this total, 97,331 arrived by air and 1,001 by sea, primarily consisting of seamen on fishing vessels (718) and 283 yacht arrivals.
The majority of these visitors, 79.9 percent, came for holiday purposes, 9.9 percent visited friends or relatives, 1.6 percent traveled for business, while 8.6 percent had other reasons for their visit. This marks a record number of arrivals for July, a 5.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. There was also a 6.2 percent rise from June 2024, which recorded 92,571 visitors. In comparison, visitor arrivals in July 2023 and 2022 were 93,483 and 78,368, respectively.
