Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka stated that the immunity provisions outlined in the 2013 Constitution do not hinder the work of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission (FTRC) or its consultation process. He emphasized that the journey toward truth and reconciliation is essential for fostering unity in Fiji.

“This is a path the country must take,” Rabuka remarked, adding that the results of the ongoing consultations will influence the FTRC’s direction. He expressed his appreciation for the public’s involvement in the consultations, highlighting the presence of former politicians, community leaders, religious representatives, NGO members, and private citizens as indicative of the community’s desire for candid discussions regarding past political turmoil.

Rabuka acknowledged the dedication of all participants and commended Sashi Kiran, along with her supporting Assistant Ministers—Sakiusa Tubuna, Lenora Qereqeretabua, Jovesa Vocea, and Ratu Isikeli Tuiwailevu—for their efforts in advancing this critical initiative.
